Jim Brennan, who bought the Kilkenny hotel on an impulse at auction in June 1977, recently appointed his son, Ian as General Manager thus ensuring that the Brennan family tradition of first class hospitality will carry on into the next generation. Jim, who is Managing Director, takes a very hands-on role in the day-to-day running of the Club House Hotel, and he believes that his staff are an integral part of the operation. Small wonder then that head chef Tim Clifford, who came to the Club House Hotel in Kilkenny in 1977 when Jim bought it, is still working in this Vintage Hotel over 30 years later.
This Kilkenny Hotel boasts Georgian architecture, detailed plasterwork and genteel atmosphere still offers all that you would expect from a quality modern Kilkenny Hotel.
An outstanding feature in the Georgian dining room is the Francini ceiling, sculpted by two famous Italian craftsmen who, having fallen on hard times, were glad to do the work in exchange for board and lodgings in the hotel. Another example of their work appears on the ceiling in Victor's Bar.
The famous Spy cartoons - caricatures of well-known people featured in the London society magazine Vanity Fair between 1868 and 1914 - adorn the staircase and corridors.
