On a prominent corner, Devitt’s overlooks the ever-changing and happening street which is Camden St, a popular shopping and socialising street for many years now… in fact infamous for it’s ‘Pub Crawl’ …if you can survive the 18 or so pubs up along Camden St and Wexford St you can withstand a lot!
Willie Devitt (Insert black and white photo of Willie hurling in his youth) the proprietor, a Limerick man and ex-Dublin hurler has established a fine sporting premises over the years with the GAA and Irish and Munster rugby a constant feature throughout as is echoed in the décor with every wall covered with memorabilia of old and new.
Not many pubs can boast a family-run ethic these days in Dublin but Devitt’s succeeds in this regard as it demonstrated by the ever-returning customer base from the surrounding locality and overseas. You never know who you could end up sitting beside from prominent journalists like Con Houlihan to Hollywood movie stars like Gabriel Byrne. The Irish rugby team have also been known to pop in for a quiet few pints on a long weekend!
A great pub for a chat and a few sociables! Devitt’s is a real 'classic' pub with no gimmicks to promote itself other than the fact is it is a drinkers pub in very sense of the word. Devitt’s is recommended by Dublinpubscene.com ‘for a quiet pint or as a meeting place’.
‘Celebrating 35 years in business this year, Autumn 2011 sees the re-launch of Devitt’s, now in the 2nd Generation of the family, showcasing a little bit of old with our Trad Sessions 3-nights and week as well as something brand new and exciting with our Tapas Nights upstairs featuring live Flamenco guitar and delicious tapas treats.’
