About The Thatch Bar:

O’Sullivans Thatch Bar was established in 1832 and is one of the few thatched bars remaining in Ireland. Eugene is the forth generation of the family to run the business. The exterior is original thatch and inside you find a handsome and attractive interior, both inthe restaurant and bar, with it's A-Shape roof rafters, timber columns, cottage windows with curtains, big granite fireplace and lots of solid tables and chairs. The old traditional style bar remains and features a welcoming open fire with an original pot and crane. A lounge and restaurant were added in 1993 whilst retaining the old traditional style. The restaurant is beautifully laid out in an authentic country kitchen style. It has been used as a location for a few films: The Quiet Man (RTE version in conjunction with Listowel Writers Week), Whiskey With An E and Christmas In The Old Days. Maurice Walsh, author of the Quiet Man was born in a house beside The Thatch Bar and was a regular visitor to the bar on his trips home.
