About Mountain View Golf Course:

Mountain View Golf Course is a purpose built and designed golf course, owned and managed by The O’Neill Family. The course alone stands on over 120 acres of rolling Kilkenny landscape. Amongst the land, natural water springs have been manipulated and developed into large lakes and water features which come into play over many of the holes.

The course has been developed on part of Kiltorcan quarry, a limestone quarry, also owned and operated by The O’Neill Family for over 35 years. The quarry is famous for fossils with pieces on display in the Irish National History Museum. Unique pieces of rock will be seen throughout various parts of the course with large pieces of limestone acting as a guide to aid the golfer’s line with some unusual features laid out over the entire course.

The golf course was developed by the current owner Dan O’Neill and inspired from his time spent living in the USA where he owned his own land reclamation business working across large projects including golf courses throughout New York. The course was designed by Irish golf architects, Richard Long & John O’Sullivan. Opening as a nine hole initially, Mountain View soon developed two years later, into an exciting and challenging eighteen hole golf course.

As you tee off from a number of holes, golfers will see two large handmade wooden bridges. These bridges were featured in the film, Braveheart. Actor Mel Gibson was filmed during the final scenes of the film, standing on these bridges. Commissioned by the O’Neill’s to Mountain View after the film was made, they are certainly unique features of the course.
