Gracy’s CaféBar is operated by Alannah Browne, youngest daughter of Lord and Lady Altamont. Gracy's is named after Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen, who is Alannah's 14th Great Grandmother in direct descendant.
Gracy’s Café Bar is a most attractive bar and restaurant with a beautiful beer garden and children’s playgound. It is located in the fantastic setting of the old farmyard buildings which are located on Westport House Country Estate, adjacent to Westport House Pirate Park.
The bar and restaurant were created out of the original stables and store houses of the old farmyard buildings. These farmyard buildings were built in the early 19th century, as central buildings for the farm, by Howe Peter Browne, direct ancestor of Alannah’s and also 8th great-grandson of Grace O’Malley!
Howe Peter Browne was adventurous and enterprising and like many of the Brownes - and Grace O'Malley herself - spent some time in jail! While in the Mediterranean on a ship with 50 people, excavating antiquities to bring back to Westport, he doubted the capibility of the 50 people on board his ship, and bribed two English seamen off a British man-o-war onto his ship – however the British government was not amused as they were trying to defeat Napoleon at the time, and he spent four months in Newgate prison in England.
Gracy’s Café Bar has been carefully developed in part of these early 19th century farmyard buildings, which must be one of the biggest sets of farm buildings in Ireland. The setting at Gracy’s is ideal for enjoying lunch or dinner or just enjoying a few drinks in the setting of a relaxing beer garden.
Gracy’s Café Bar is right next door to the Pirates Den of which is an indoor soft play area for the little ones! So mummy & Daddy can sit and have a drink or something to eat while the children are being supervised. Gracy’s has probably the largest beer garden in the west! And right next door is a childrens playground, so once again the adults can enjoy a drink and watch the kiddies play. Also there is an outdoor eating area where the food can be enjoyed alfresco! Gracy’s is on the grounds of Westport House & Pirate adventure Park – one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ireland. Being a two minute walk from a caravan park & campsite, if you are staying here you won’t have far to travel for a meal or a pint. Also in high season there is live music to enjoy in the afternoon or evening.
