Mc Kenna's Bar is a well known family run pub established in 1936. It's situated on Dublin Street, Monaghan. It has 2 bars, the Anchor Bar and the Brewery.
The Anchor Bar is located on the ground floor which has a real genuine pub atmosphere. There is a Jukebox which has an extensive library to choose from and while you are enjoying your favourite tunes, why not have a game of pool ! Mc Kenna's also hosts an annual North Monaghan area Pool Competition for all you hustlers out there, please see this page for details.
Upstairs is the Brewery, this is the live venue, which hosts rock, blues & alternative bands and DJ's. It also hosts a number of regular events such as the Monaghan Blues Jam that takes place on the last Friday of every month. Check out the Brewery's myspace page.
Mc Kenna's also has the best party package in Monaghan (actually in Ireland). We will provide You with Free venue, Free hot Delicious bites, and also Free DJ (sorry, we don't do 18th Birthdays ...) with capacity for over 100 people!
Mc Kenna's Bar Monaghan hosts an Open Mic like no other, with a different host every Thursday so each week is unique. It has grown in stature with artists performing from all over Europe & America (and Monaghan), and we have been inundated with acts looking to host. But it is an Open Mic, so if your a seasoned professional or play tunes as a hobby, this is a night for YOU!
We also proudly host the longest running Blues Jam in the country, which take's place on the last Friday of every month, hosted by Dez Murphy and his house band. Musicians regularly attend Mc Kenna's from Belfast to Drogheda, from Monaghan to Sligo, but newbies are always welcome!
