First licensed in 1800 as the winds of revolution were sweeping across western Europe, this repository of liquid culture is one of the great surviving bastions of Dublin’s licensed heritage. In 1989 this old hostelry was acquired and re-dedicated in the traditional idiom by current host, Vincent Smyth, whose family had accumulated some 40 years experience in the Dublin licensed trade, both in Amiens Street and Malahide.
